You choose the route
- On-device: use Apple Intelligence on supported Macs or a local Ollama server. Note content stays on the device for those requests.
- Bring your own key: connect a supported provider. Requests go from the desktop app to that provider, and its terms and billing apply.
- Anasa managed: buy a license or Cloud plan and use credit-metered requests routed through Anasa and the Vercel AI Gateway.
The modes are not identical in availability, privacy, speed, model capability, or cost. Anasa shows the selected provider and never switches cloud AI on for you. At first launch it turns on on-device AI only if Apple Intelligence or a local Ollama server is available; you can switch it off in Settings → AI Features.
While Anasa managed AI, or a bring-your-own-key provider that supports embeddings, is on, the notes you create or edit are embedded in the background so semantic search and related-note suggestions can find them. The vectors are stored only on your device.
What it can do
AI features include chat over selected context, summaries, tag suggestions, task extraction, writing assistance, semantic search, and related-note suggestions. Generated text can be wrong. Review it before relying on it, especially for factual, legal, medical, or financial work.
What is recorded
Local and bring-your-own-key requests do not create Anasa usage records. Managed requests record the license, feature, credits, time, and limited operational metadata, but not the submitted note text or note titles. Read AI Privacy for the precise data flow.
